UGC warns public against fraudulent cases
UGC asks the public to be aware of fraudulent online degrees offered with the same nomenclature as of recognized degree. Manish Joshi, Secretary of UGC, said that some universities offer online courses with abbreviated forms similar to the ones approved by higher education systems, taking example of 10-day MBA.
UGC further went on stating that the nomenclature, duration, and entry qualification of a degree are specified by UGC with prior approval of central government through a notification of official gazette.
Only universities established or incorporated under central, state or provincial acts or institutions deemed to be universities have the right to confer degrees.
