Indian Universities to offer Admissions twice a year
UGC chairperson, Jagadeesh Kumar said that Indian Universities offering higher educational programmes will be allowed to offer admission twice a year like foreign universities. As of now, admissions were open during July and August, but with UGC’s decision now, admission will also take place in January and February.
The primary benefit is that students who missed the admission cycle due to delay in announcement of board results do not have to wait for one whole year. This scheme of biannual admission was approved earlier under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) scheme.
Last year about 4,28,854 students joined in January in addition to 19,73,056 students enrolled in July 2022. UGC said that the numbers point a healthy trend as industries can also conduct their campus recruitment twice a year, improving employment opportunities for graduates.
