Legacy of Leaders: The Prestigious Alumni Circle of Gujarat University

Gujarat University's Alumni Network sets it apart from any new online institution. No digital-only platform can match this history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi studied at Gujarat University. Home Minister Amit Shah studied here too. Space program pioneer Dr. Vikram Sarabhai walked these same halls. Former ISRO chief Dr. K. Kasturirangan is another distinguished alumnus.

President Droupadi Murmu spoke about this legacy in her Presidential Address at the university. She called Gujarat University a 1949 creation, born from the vision of Gandhi and Sardar Patel. She named it a leading institution across Gujarat and India.

Former Union Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad made a similar point. He said India's Prime Ministers today skip Cambridge and Oxford. They graduate from Gujarat University instead.

This is a credibility signal no new online university can replicate.

Four-Year Undergraduate Programs

  • Gujarat University offers three online UG degrees under the NEP 2020 structure. These are B.A. English, B.Com., and B.C.A. Each runs for 4 years across 6 semesters. Each carries 132 program credits. All three are English Medium and fully online.

  • The curriculum uses NEP course codes. These include DSC (Discipline Specific Core), MDC (Multidisciplinary Course), AEC (Ability Enhancement Course), SEC (Skill Enhancement Course), and VAC (Value Added Course). For example, B.A. English Semester 1 pairs DSC-C-111 Foundation Studies in English Literature with SEC-116 Writing and Presentation Skills. B.C.A. Semester 1 pairs C Programming Practical with Web Designing.

  • Eligibility for all three: 12th pass in any stream, or ITI pass with 12th English pass, or a 10+2 diploma with an equivalency certificate. Yearly fees for Indian students: B.A. English ₹5,000, B.Com. ₹4,000, B.C.A. ₹12,000.

Postgraduate Degree Programs (Master's Level)

  • Gujarat University runs three online PG programs: Online M.A. English, Online M.Com, and M.Sc. Mathematics Online. Each spans 2 years across 4 semesters, with 96 program credits, fully online and English Medium.

  • Postgraduate eligibility for M.A. English and M.Com: a UG or Bachelor's degree in any stream from a UGC-recognized university. M.Sc. Mathematics requires a UG degree specifically with Mathematics as a subject. Yearly fees for Indian students: M.A. English ₹6,000, M.Com ₹9,000, M.Sc. Mathematics ₹18,000. All three include a seminar, project, or practical component in the final semesters.

Free Mandatory Indic Knowledge System (IKS) Courses

  • Every UG student at Gujarat University's online centre must complete two IKS modules. VAC-117 Indic Knowledge System (IKS) 1 runs in Semester 1. VAC-237 Indic Knowledge System (IKS) 3 runs in Semester 3. Both are Value Added Courses (VAC), so they carry academic credit.

  • These modules are taught by Prof. Dr. Jagdish Joshi, Director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education. Lectures are available in both Gujarati Medium IKS and English Medium IKS formats. The courses are completely free for enrolled online students, with no extra charge added to yearly tuition. Gujarat University also opens these free IKS courses to its regular on-campus students, not just online enrollees.

The Dual Degree Provision: Fast-Track Your Qualifications Concurrently

Gujarat University offers a rare benefit. Any regular, physical-campus student in India can join a CDOE online program too. This is the Provision of Dual Degree. It lets you earn two qualifications at once. No need to wait years between degrees.

UGC approved this rule nationally, so every recognized university must honor it. It follows official UGC Guidelines for Pursuing Two Academic Programmes Simultaneously. UGC approved a modification to these rules on 3rd April 2025, during its 589th Commission meeting. The guidelines rest on NEP 2020 principles. They push for flexible, multidisciplinary learning paths.

The rules set clear limits. Two full-time physical programs need non-overlapping class timings. But you can pair one physical program with one ODL or online program. You can even run two ODL/online programs together. The online degree must come from a UGC or Statutory Council recognized institution. Gujarat University qualifies here — it's UGC-entitled and DEB approved.

One exception applies: PhD students cannot use this provision. Everyone else pursuing UG or PG programs simultaneously can proceed under these guidelines.

This means a B.Com. A student on Gujarat University's campus can simultaneously enroll in BCA online, paying separate fees for each program without conflict.

Gujarat University Online Courses LMS Platform & Student Portal

Gujarat University runs online programs on a dedicated LMS. This is separate from the admission site. Confirm your enrollment and pay fees first. The university then sends you LMS login credentials. Sign in to access lectures, assignments, and grades.

Course Guideline PDFs, in English and Gujarati, sit under Downloads on the main site, not inside the LMS. The semester fee structure sits there too. Save these files each semester. This saves you a search later.

Keep your LMS password and MyLOFT code in two separate notes. Each uses a different login format. The LMS asks for your enrollment ID. MyLOFT asks for an institute code. Swapping the two is the most common login mistake. These tickets take 2-3 days to close.

File login problems through the Grievance form under "LMS / Online Class Support." The Grievance form gives you a case ID immediately. Use that case ID to check your ticket status anytime.

Accessing Your Learning Environment on the GU Online LMS

Three logins run your daily work here. The LMS holds your lectures. MyLOFT holds your readings. The Grievance portal logs technical faults, fee disputes, and exam or result complaints.

  • Sign into the LMS with your enrollment ID. Find recorded lectures, SLM units, and assignment uploads here.

  • Open MyLOFT for the E-Library. This runs separate from the LMS. Use your institute code to log in. You get this code with your admission documents.

  • Download SLM units right away. They're self-paced. Don't wait for a live class to start reading.

  • Report LMS issues through Grievance Redressal. Pick "Technical Support" or "LMS / Online Class Support." Attach a screenshot. Save your reference number to track it.

  • Check posted alerts every week. Find exam timetables and academic notices there.

Gujarat University Online Admission Process

  1. Visit the Centre for Distance and Online Education portal directly.

  2. Select your admission category first: National Applicant or International Applicant.

  3. Download the Admission Brochure. Check program fees and eligibility before applying.

  4. Complete Online Admission Registration with accurate personal details.

  5. Avoid unapproved, third-party registration forms. Scammers copy university branding to steal money and data.

  6. Verify you're on the university's own registration system before entering any payment details.

  7. Save your confirmation number and login credentials for future access.

Distance Education vs. 100% Online Learning: Key Differences Explained

Many students confuse Gujarat University's two study modes. Here's the real difference.

CDOE Distance Education runs under Gujarat University's Centre for Distance and Online Education. Programs like B.A. English, B.Com., and BCA fall here. Exams follow the External Exam Timetable, published as a PDF notification. For example, the July–August 2026 cycle runs papers from 25 July to 3 August. Most slots fall between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM. These are offline, proctored papers tied to specific subject codes like DSC-C-111.

The 100% Online Learning Mode works differently. Coursework and lectures happen on the LMS portal. LMS Assessments cover continuous evaluation there too. Students log in remotely for study material. No travel is needed for daily learning.

Registration mistake to avoid: LMS access does not replace exam-day attendance. Distance program exams still need physical presence. Check the notification section on the CDOE site. Look for updated Examination Center Locations before every exam cycle.
