About the University of Kashmir Online
The University of Kashmir (KU) has a strong history that began in 1948, when the University of Jammu and Kashmir was founded. In 1969 that university split in two, and KU found a good home in Srinagar. Its 247-acre main campus at Hazratbal sits between Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake, a solid base for learning. Satellite campuses at Anantnag, Baramulla and Kupwara bring valuable higher education closer to remote areas. A Sub-Office at Bathindi, Jammu helps candidates from outside Kashmir. The motto, "From Darkness to Light," points learners toward knowledge, growth and success.
KU set up the Directorate of Distance Education in 1976 to teach through Open and Distance Learning (ODL), and has built a strong record since. Today it works as the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) within the School of Open Learning. Its multi-storied building has a library, an audio-visual lab, a conference hall and classrooms. A computer lab with ICT facilities and student support services help your study. Choose from nine two-year master's programs, a two-year B.Ed., and twelve diploma programs that build useful skills. Admission runs online and rests on academic merit, so every applicant gets a fair chance. The B.Ed. program offers 500 seats for 2026-27. UGC rules let you hold one regular and one distance degree at the same time. Working professionals can gain a qualification without pausing their career.
